War Head Desert Base

War Head store section is open!

The theme of our brand-new store section is a Tallarn desert basecamp, where dutiful guardsmen arrive to get inspired and replenish their combat gear. Our aim is to stock interesting hobby products and always provide something new and exciting to look at - many miniature cabinets, props and displays are already present and several cool plans are in the works!

The store in Opastinsilta 8 is open every day of the week, with War Head's wargaming program arranged on Tuesdays and Sundays in our upstairs play area. Welcome one and all!

Uusi, vastikään avattu myymäläosastomme Poromagian yhteydessä on rakennettu teemaltaan Tallarn-aavikkoleiriksi klassisen 40K -kuva-aiheiston inspiroimana.

Move, move move!

Poromagian ja War Headin myymälä ja turnaustoiminta muuttavat pian uusiin toimitiloihin! Löydät meidät jatkossakin Pasilan Opastinsillalta - toivotamme kaikki tervetulleiksi avajaisfestareille 28.-30. kesäkuuta!

The gaming entertainment operation of Poromagia and War Head is changing coordinates this summer! We won't go far though, as the new premises are right across the street from our current location in Opastinsilta 8 A. The brand-new store will be built to the ground floor whereas the gaming area will have its own, dedicated space upstairs. Exciting times!

The re-opening weekend of 28-30th of June will host many different events, as well as an open second-hand market which is an opportunity for you to sell your old gaming stuff (not limited to miniatures). We will also celebrate the occasion with several special offers, a War Head Classics Bazaar and a casual 40K patrol tournament of our own. Stay tuned for more information!

We'd like to thank everyone for their support and participation in the current location, and we hope we get to serve you with the same drive in the new base. Let's make it a good one!

Fight Club Season 2018 Thanks!

It's time to wrap up another magnificent hobby year - War Head's 2018 was amazingly productive and we got to create hundreds of miniatures for the theaters of WH40K, Horus Heresy and Age of Sigmar (to name a few). Our Fight Club battle space hosted a total of 36 tournaments this year, beating our last annual record with exactly one event! We live for this stuff and promise to keep the pace up during the new year, feeling privileged to bolster and develop the Finnish wargaming scene.

Our team would like to extend our boundless gratitude to everyone following our endeavors, participating in our tournaments and shopping with us in-store or via Poromagia.com. Immense thanks for your support, see you (and your armies) next year!

Temaattinen Craftworld Eldar Alaitoc -kokonaisuus jäi vuoden viimeiseksi armeijalaajuiseksi maalauskomissioksi. Kiitokset kaikille maalauspalveluamme käyttäneille, vuoden ensimmäisellä neljänneksellä on vielä kapasiteettia jäljellä! Yhteyden tiimiimme saa osoitteesta contact@gowarhead.com.

Battlefield Cliffs

During the last couple of weeks we've been updating Fight Club's terrain selection specifically with the current vibe of 40K in mind - bigger chunks of line of sight blocking terrain are required for the competitive gaming experience. These new additions to our scenery shelves are actually conversions, put together from some of our outdated terrain pieces, originally created for editions long past. Now they're back to serve for a few more years!

Kalliolohkareiden suojissa piilee mausoleumi. Kryptat ja portin voi tarvittaessa irrottaa.

Isot kallionlohkareet ja korotettu laskeutumisalusta siiloineen tarjoavat näkösuojaa kaikille deployment zoneille.

Toinen kalliomaastosetti on tavallisemman värinen ja sopii meininkinsä puolesta hyvin Fantasy Battleen ja esimerkiksi Lord of the Rings -taisteluihin.

Yhteen kivimuodostelmaan on integroitu area-maastoksi myös kraateri.

Maastosetit ovat huomenna kenttätestattavissa tiistain Fight Club peli-illassa. Tervetuloa messiin!

War Program

War Headin turnausvuosi 2018 rullaa käyntiin! Kattauksessa on heti kärkeen tiukkaa lämmittelyä Nopat & Taktiikka Talvisodan kaksipäiväisiin koitoksiin sekä kevyempiä fluffiturnauksia fiilistelynnälkäisille. Mars maalaamaan!

The 9th Age: The Broken Blade 21.1.
War Headin turnausvuoden korkkaa The 9th Age -tapahtuma, joka on myös ensimmäinen lajiaan pelin jouluna päivittyneellä sääntöpaketilla. The 9th Age on Warhammer Fantasy Battlen kasiedikan pohjalta fanivoimin pystytetty fantasiapeli, joka on saavuttanut suuren suosion "the rykmenttihammerina" turnauksissa ympäri maailman.

40K Talvisota 2018 Warm-Up 28.1.
Kaksipäiväisen Nopat & Taktiikka Talvisodan Warhammer 40K -turnaus on yksi kansallisen turnausvuoden kompetitiivisia kiintopisteitä ja kova näytönpaikka kaikille European Team Championships -joukkuepaikkaa havitteleville. Järkkäämme Talvisodan sääntöpakettia mukaillen "etkot" viikko ennen päätapahtumaa Espoon Niittykummussa - tule mukaan ja laita viimeisin armeijalistaiteraatio kovaan testiin kolmen kierroksen Warm-upissa!

40K: First Contact Rookies 11.3.
War Headin kolmas "First Contact" -aloittelijaturnaus jatkaa aiempien episodien teemaa; rentoa 40K-pelailua ilman paineita kaikkien sääntöjen osaamisesta tai hampaat irvessä vääntämistä.

30K: Lines in the Sand 25.2.
Forge Worldin tuottama Horus Heresy jatkaa Warhammer 40K:n kahdeksannen laitoksen ilmestymisestä huolimatta tutulla säännöstöllä. Legioonien sisällissotaan keskittyvä miljöö on ollut yksi Fight Clubin suosituimmista turnauspelijärjestelmistä ja jatkamme innolla 40K-galaksin historiallisilla taistelukentillä! Lines in the Sandissa tullaan näkemään erityislaatuinen tiimiasetelma kolmen pelikierroksen kampanjahenkisessä sotapäivässä.

Fight Club Blood Bowl Bash 4.3.
Vuoden ensimmäinen NAF-sanktioitu Blood Bowl -turnaus pelataan Fight Clubilla heti maaliskuun alussa. EuroBowl 2018 -säännöillä pelattava turnaus on kevyesti kompattu versio klassisesta Blood Bowlista. Myös makein joukkue palkitaan! Turnauksen oheisohjelmana järjestetään Knight Modelsin Batman-miniatyyripelin tutustumispäivä, lisätiedot myöhemmin Sotavasara.netistä.

Age of Sigmar: Code of Honour 11.3.

Tervetuloa Fight Club -turnauksiin vuonna 2018!

2017 Fight Club Player Spotlight: Noa Kaistinen

Some of you might have noticed some new, cool forces gracing our store section's cabinets this summer. These are hand-picked highlights from our dear player community and from Fight Club combatants that have been kind enough to have us display their armies! This exhibition will now be accompanied by mini interviews to shed light on the artists behind these brilliant collections. These interviews are conducted in English because of our community's international flavour. Today we get to know Praetor Noa Kaistinen!

Who are you and what do you do besides play wargames?

Noa Kaistinen here, I'm a metal artisan and a chef in a restaurant, I go to gym time to time and spend my evenings listening to music and audio books, playing PC games and watching some movies and TV series.

How did you first begin the hobby?

I started my hobby over ten years ago. I went to local store that sold some PC and PSP games but stumbled upon some Warhammer stuff. It was love at first sight. I ended up buying old school Terminators as my first minis along with some paints and hobby supplies.

What armies do you play? What's your favourite kind of roster?

At the moment I play Ork-themed Adeptus Mechanicus in 40K, but there's some new projects on their way!

Horus Heresy is my go-to game and the Iron Warriors my jam. My favourite roster is capable of blowing everything up with heavy support and it feels like I'm always a few FOC slots short while planning army lists. I like to support my infantry with big guns and especially blast weapons.

What is your fondest gaming memory?

Hmm, there's a couple that instantly come to mind. A few editions back I was playing War Head's Ollie at our local gaming club, the matchup was my Orks against his Black Templars. At some point he charged his Sword Brethren Terminators into my Burna Boyz. Back then you could use their flamethrowers as power weapons, so my boyz just welded those Terminators into scrap. That was awesome. I also remember my old pal, who's not into the hobby anymore, but we used to play almost every week back in the day. The playing surface was usually a carpet on the floor with some poorly prepared foam terrain pieces and forest bases carved out of cardboard. Those early hobby memories are very fun.

What is your best tournament / campaign achievement?

My best achievement was in this years Model Expo and War Head's Horus Heresy tournament, where I ranked first with my Iron Warriors. I also cherish the best Army Award I received with my Ork Mechanicus in a Fight Club 40K event.

What was your inspiration for creating a Mechanicus-themed Ork army?

The planning of the army came down to a few factors; 1) what was a good competitive army at the time 2) what's relatively cheap to make 3) what's fun to paint and convert. Actually the army was originally a part of a War Head's Survivor Series Hobby Challenge and got expanded later.

The colour scheme was totally new to me with its bright orange, as I normally paint very grim and dark minis, but I wanted to do something new and challenging. One of my references was Maxime Pastourel's orange Rebel Gretchin army. Warhammer Store's Armies on Parade competition also served as a great motivation booster while I was finishing the force.

Why do you think people should participate in tournaments? What do you get out of them?

Well, you get more games under your belt, so you will become a better player. You also meet lots of new people and gaming pals, that you will see regularly in other tournaments later on. Gaming events also boost motivation to paint new miniatures and you get to see cool and different armies to give you ideas and inspiration.

If you had to spend a day as a legionnary in Horus Heresy, which Legion would you choose and why?

Even though 4th Legion aka the Iron Warriors is closest to me, I would probably spend my time in the Ultramarines or Sons of Horus, as they seem to be pretty OK fellows and their spaceships and fortifications are not as dull as the Iron Warriors'. Both of them seem to have a nice daily campaign routine and nice combat doctrines, so they'd feel comfortable to fight alongside with!

Thanks Noa, don't let the big guns tire!

Antti Rautsi ja Noa Horus Heresy -turnauksen ja kaupunkitaistelun tuoksinnassa.

2017 Fight Club Player Spotlight: Darryn Lee

...via War Head Facebook

Some of you might have noticed some new, cool forces gracing our store section's cabinets this summer. These are hand-picked highlights from our dear player community and from Fight Club combatants that have been kind enough to have us display their armies! This exhibition will now be accompanied by mini interviews to shed light on the artists behind these brilliant collections. These interviews are conducted in English because of our community's international flavour. Today we introduce commander Darryn Lee!

Who are you and what do you do besides play wargames?

I'm Darryn Lee, I'm from South Africa but have been living in Finland 6 years now. I'm a school assistant in an English language elementary school in Helsinki. My other hobbies are swimming, being in nature, reading, writing short stories and poetry and learning languages (6 so far and counting!).

How did you first begin the hobby?

I started in 1998 with a single box of skeleton warriors, bone paint and ink wash. I wish I had kept those, I had no idea how to use wash so they were mostly black! I discovered Warhammer at the local shop that sold Dungeons and Dragons supplies and instantly fell in love. Wargaming wasn't so big in my home town back then so I played in my friends garage/gamestore/hobby room for many years as well.

What armies do you play? What's your favourite kind of roster?

I've got Blood Axe Orks, Veterans of the Viet-Nork Waaagh! led by the cunning but brutal Kernul Kill-gore.

An undivided Chaos Daemons army... I like to think either the Changeling or Fateweaver is pulling the strings in that one.

A growing Tyranid Swarm called Hive Fleet Nyoka (isiZulu for snake).

And my beloved Death Korps of Krieg, led by Colonel Flockenstuffen. Big guns never tire!

As you can tell, I love playing hordes (my wallet disagrees!) so my favourite kind of roster is one where I get to drown my opponent in bodies. I'm just a little bit happy that all the horde infantry got cheaper in the newest edition, more boots on ground lads... or claws... or hooves... whatever! Make them run out of bullets!

I've also recently started Gatormen Minions for Warmachine and Hordes.

What is your fondest gaming memory?

That would have to be our yearly journey to ICON in Johannesburg when I was younger. Its the biggest gaming/hobby event in South Africa, we would drive 6 hours to sleep on the floor in the cold (no insulation so around 1 degree inside at night!). We'd be up all night, freezing and painting our last minis for the next day, laughing and reading our rule books one last time, and then get a full two days of gaming against some of the best in SA. Good times and excellent memories.

What is your best tournament / campaign achievement?

My Death Korps recently won best painted army for the white alliance at a War Head tournament. I also won best painted with my Lizardmen way back in 2002 at a tournament in my home town.

Who is your arch rival in the Fight Club or in tournaments?

That would be David "Dirty Daddy" Jackson. I've played his Cryx dozens of times and managed to beat him just once! It really feels like I am a fly walking blindly into his spider web every time I play him... One day David, one day!

Also have to shout out to Travis "crazy ginger hiding in the woods" Finneran. Every game plays out like a Michael Bay movie, explosions, action, excitement and adventure, the personification of forging the narrative.

Who is your favourite character in the 40K lore? Why is that?

That would have to be Private Perkins, the lowly Imperial Guardsman. In a world filled with horrific aliens, never ending war, planet killing weaponry, living nightmares and superhuman soldiers, it's the average human who stands up to these with nothing more than a rifle and a bayonet who are the real heroes.

A single commendation and a piece of criticism for the 8th edition?

I really like how they reset the board and everything is usable again, even the most humble units from the previous editions have a place in the new, and it seems for now that its going to stay that way! There is also a whole new level of tactics around positioning, consolidation and movement. Fun times, good job GW!

I think its too early to criticize 8th edition although I hear the grumbling already. People should enjoy the new breath of fresh air, dust off those unused models and give them a whirl! Its really great fun.

Thanks Darryn and keep up the great hobby spirit!

Darryn (vasemmalla) otti mittaa Mauri Lunkan Solar Rogues -marineista viimeisimmässä War Head Rookies -turnauksessa.

2017 Fight Club Player Spotlight: Sampsa Lahti

...via War Head Facebook

Some of you might have noticed some new, cool forces gracing our store section's cabinets this summer. These are hand-picked highlights from our dear player community and from Fight Club combatants that have been kind enough to have us display their armies! This exhibition will now be accompanied by mini interviews to shed light on the artists behind these brilliant collections. These interviews are conducted in English because of our community's international flavour. First up is Horus Heresy enthusiast Sampsa!

Who are you and what do you do besides play wargames?

My name is Sampsa Lahti and I work as a ferry driver in various locations along the Saimaa area. Besides wargaming, I'm the stereotypical nerd with a love for various sorts of computer/console games, fantasy and science fiction.

How did you first begin the hobby?

I first got into the hobby by buying the 'Assault on Black Reach' set with my brother - he took the Orks, I took the Marines, and we taught each other how to play. It's been a long and interesting road from there.

What armies do you play? What's your favourite kind of roster?

Currently I have Salamanders and Necrons for 40K and Death Guard and Mechanicum for 30K, along with an Imperial Fists project I started some time ago. I tend to prefer army rosters with a durable, punchy unit or two as the core - typically heavy armor, like a Land Raider or Monolith - supported with more mobile 'troubleshooter' units. I especially like more flexible solutions over 'overspecialized' units.

What is your fondest gaming memory?

My fondest gaming memory probably is those first few games I played with my brother when we were both new to the game. Simple times and all that. He'd bought himself a Big Mek with a Shokk Attak gun, and I think it was around the second or third time he fired the damn thing that he managed to shoot the Mek at my Ironclad Dreadnought. That.. didn't end so well for him.

What is your best tournament/campaign achievement?

I'd say my best tournament achievement is winning the Best Painted award with my Death Guard at War Head 30K tournament! I tend to spend more time painting than playing and it's super gratifying to see people like my models.

Who is your arch rival in the Fight Club or in tournaments?

I wouldn't say I have an arch rival per say, although there is a certain Word Bearers player I've been itching to have a rematch with. More to the point, I have a very good friend who plays Heresy-era Emperor's Children - he's always entertaining to play with, and our typical army builds tend to be polar opposites of one another - it makes for very interesting matches.

Who is your favourite character in the 40K lore?

My current favorite character is Section Leader Crysos Morturg, a loyalist Death Guard officer from the Horus Heresy. He's a secondary character at best, but you have to give respect for a man who dug himself out of the wreckage of Isstvan III only to give Mortarion the finger. Dude just refused to lay down and die.

A single commendation and a piece of criticism for the 8th edition?

I like how in 8th edition, the 'power level' system lets you field units and loadouts in casual play that would've been suboptimal at best in the past - things like kitted-out squad commanders in particular were a huge point sink compared to the actual use you got out of them. What I most don't like about 8th edition is more of a pet peeve - you can no longer put Dreadnoughts in drop pods, and my whole Salamanders army is more or less built around throwing half a dozen dreadnoughts in drop pods at the other dude! I've seven carefully painted drop pods that aren't likely to see the outside of the shelf in a while.

Thanks Sampsa and best of luck to your future hobby endeavours!

War Head Alliances IV Combat Report

Olipa hauska viikonloppu!

Yhdellä pöydällä taisteltiin komentobunkkerien hallinnasta, toisella sekaannuttiin Ulumealaiseen heimosotaan ja kolmannella pelaajien tuli vallata Basiliskeja, joilla saattoivat sitten ampua muihin pöytiin omaa joukkuettaan tukeakseen.

Turha toivo. Valkoinen jengi kiri huikein kierrosluvuin rinnalle ja ohi ja uusi jälleen voittonsa hyvästä vastuksesta huolimatta!

Pelit pelattiin pääpiirteittäin aikataulussa ja monet tapahtumat jäävät varmasti pitkäksi aikaa mieleen - on vaikeaa unohtaa kun oma Warlord ammutaan tykistötulella viereiseltä pöydältä, tai kun koko pelin ajan suojelemasi Bastion joutuu Alpha Legion -erikoisjoukkojen melta-aseiden sulattamaksi! Kiitokset kaikille pelaajille hienosta turnauksesta ja ensiluokkaisesta peli-ilosta päivän mittaan.

Musta Allianssi 270 - 330 Valkoinen Allianssi

Valkoisen Allianssin makein armeija: Darryn Lee, Death Korps of Krieg
Mustan Allianssin makein armeija: Vili Urpilainen, Imperial Fists
Gangs of Commorragh -yllätysarvonnan voittaja: Eetu Toiviainen, Imperial Guard

"Dante's Inferno" Blood Angels -armeijaa komentanut JP Kumpulainen johdatti komendantin roolissa Allianssinsa voittoon. Turnauksen tunnelmiin voi palata War Headin Facebook-gallerian avulla.

Omien allianssiensa pensselitaiturit: Darryn Lee ja Vili Urpilainen voittivat armeijapalkinnot Death Korps of Krieg ja Imperial Fists -kokonaisuuksilla. War Head -raati arvosti erityisesti realistista maalausjälkeä, tehokkaita konversioita ja esimerkiksi Darrynin ylimääräisiä panostuksia pelin kannalta merkityksettömiin scenic-elementteihin ja objektiivimerkkeihin.
