The Recipe Bandits

In continuation of last episode...

In our recent Halloween games the adventurers got a surprise of their lives as they stepped into the woods surrounding the town of Saint Thracius! What was supposed to be a simple mission of tracking down a cohort of Beastmen bandits (the party responsible of stealing the Great Pumpking's favourite pie recipe) turned out to be a giant quest...

As it was the spooky season, Ollie reinforced his old Age of Sigmar Beastmen army with a trio of horrifying giants, each lovingly crafted to a unique character of its own with a number of horror movie references hidden in the intricate conversions and the paintjob. These appeared in the game one by one and the participants couldn't anticipate the coming of the monstrosities beforehand - the appearance of each one was a proper curveball on the in-game situation and the players' tactics. Super fun!

What makes these giants extra special is that they're brilliantly integrated to the fantasy lore of Thracia Rex, with the modelled and painted details as well as colour choices referencing either the feudal world gaming board or our other Halloween armies. Projects like this are exciting to be a part of, and each year the universe we've built together becomes a bit larger and more colourful.

Watch out for the entire Giant Gallery on Facebook!

Quest for the Man-Meat Pie

Watch out for the Skeletons!
The Great Pumpking, the acting mayor of the cursed city of Saint Thracius, has had his favourite recipe of Man-Meat Pie stolen. The spy witnesses on the streets report the treasure has been taken outside the city walls and into the darkness of the surrounding forests. These primeval wilds are a home for many strange folk and wicked creatures of the night - who might be behind the vulgar crime?

For this year's Halloween scenario three brave warbands of able adventurers strided into the woods but not before searching for useful artifacts in the cursed city itself - it wouldn't be an All Hallows' Eve in the Mortal Realms without the classic board game adventure! After the skirmish on the streets dodging Guard Skeletons and answering riddles asked by the Prison Sphinx, all parties recovered some artifacts and ventured to the woods. They were in for a giant surprise...

Providing modelling inspiration and eye candy to all participants has been in the limelight of our social hobby gatherings for years - this time we asked players to prepare a band of fantasy adventurers (a leader, two troopers and a rookie) with some kind of a light source to take on the Halloween quest. It was cool to see the players paint up some classics and come up with brilliant lore for their teams - each one was a distinctively personal team of fighters fitting to the spooky scene. More on the miniatures and the adventure later!

'Tis The Season

Halloween and our traditional spooky Age of Sigmar gaming eve approach and dark forces are on the move! Another adventure in the Realm of Shadow awaits and the gloomy streets of Saint Thracius once again thirst for blood - whatever perils await our heroes this time, and what kind of peculiar characters arrive to throw their hat into the ring? We've made the Halloween games one of our dearest annual events and have had wicked time with spooky custom scenarios, combining ultralight roleplaying, self-made boardgame features and Age of Sigmar skirmishing into a narrative entirety. This year Teemu and Ollie are teaming up to further the story started in the previous years, which naturally calls for new miniatures!

All Hallows' eve in the Mortal Realms awaits!

The Jurassic Dark

We created a few "horror-inspired" Age of Sigmar armies for our Halloween Battle this fall - these Lizardmen are a wily bunch of witches and grave-robbers that have chosen to take root in the Realm of Shadows and have tread a bit too far from the light of the their star-masters. This would have led to a cultural and physical decay in their mighty cohorts, with the loyalty to the Old Ones slowly changing to cult behavior and primitive paganism. One of the most interesting elements in AoS for me is how the different realms offer thematic conversion ideas and possibilities to interpret the usual faction visuals and culture in a different, imaginative way.

Small projects like these are awesome for testing out new mediums, methods and techniques - it's always healthy to challenge oneself and to try pushing both the vision and end product a bit further. Some of the cornerstones here were the Vallejo Malefic Skin Paint Set, AK Interactive scenic accessories and Green Stuff World tools such as the Chainmail Texture Plate, most of which are available via our webstore. Our instagram.com/gowarhead also contains many pics and musings about the idea and execution behind the new force.

Halloween in the Mortal Realms

What a mad week of preparations and painting marathons, what a Halloween gaming party! We rolled our first dice in the Mortal Realms yesterday,  commanding completely new armies especially created for the spooky occasion. The mini campaign was about a violent adventure in the Realm of Shadows, with our daredevil factions trying to locate the Shadow King's stolen crown.

The participating armies (The Shadecast Eternals, The Pumpkin Gitz, The Soulblight Gravelords and The Jurassic Dark) will get posted here and in our social media channels with some descriptions and debriefing as usual - this is just to highlight the fun we had and to thank the participating parties! Hopefully another tradition in the making.
