War Head Civil War 2025 Results and Coverage

These are the good old days.

Our annual highlight of hobby magic and the peak in our shared Horus Heresy enthusiasm is in the books again. It was spectacular to return to the Civil War with such a dedicated crew and experience all new armies, unit additions and character reinforcements make their debuts after months of work on the hobby desks.

I really admire both the level of creativity as well as the bravery in how our participants were out to forge memorable and narratively inspired armies - as we took turns revealing our new forces one unit at a time there was twists and surprises at every turn. Civil War's artistic beauty is in its scale - patrol sized armies are much more approachable as hobby projects, and definitely enough to tell a complete story with as we witnessed again this Saturday.

Massive gratitude to all of the crew for making this special tradition what it is - the pinnacle of our joint hobby and something that keeps us inspired all year around.

Civil War V Combat Coverage

The amazing hobby tradition of War Head Civil War is now past us for another year - what a treat it was once again! I feel that this year's event was one of the best in the heritage's history, as the inspired rules package, team's hobby commitment and our joint enthusiasm for The Horus Heresy all helped to nourish a memorable gaming day. I've often stated that the wargaming hobby might be entirely different depending on who you surround yourself with - in a like-minded company where everyone feeds off each others' inspiration and shares the same gaming values, it's a creative and social joy like no other.

Civil War is as much about the journey as it is of the destination, as the preparations begin early on before the actual gathering. The tradition calls for secret mustering of new assets, unexpected reinforcements or completely new surprise armies, which are presented to other players in the morning of the gaming day. On Sunday we unveiled the secret schemes long in the making and took turns describing and displaying our 500 point patrols for other participants to admire. Some of the Thracian Insurgency armies had evolved into completely new iterations due to cool unit additions and we also witnessed three completely new forces - a White Scar Recon host, a Blood Angels "boots on the ground" task force and a Emperor's Children III Company Elites detachment! It was delightful to hear everyone describe their projects and get excited about the oncoming games, as stunners like Scott's unforeseen Xiphon Interceptor completely caught many of us off-guard!

The format this year was Horus Heresy patrols (500 points, one required Troop, no mandatory HQ, no more than 2 wounds on any model, max one model with a 2+ save, no vehicles with armour value total over 33) and skirmish gameplay. We played three rounds and the dynamics changed in each one - after the traditional duel on the first round the participants were paired for two-versus-two tag team games. The four-player Carnages wrapped the day up and final victory points were calculated; each scenario had many different mini-missions focused on maneuvering and objective control performed with any non-vehicle units. All in all the 500 point roster size worked perfectly, it was a fresh breeze of "grassroots meta" where Tactical Marines could shine and the size of the armies was a very feasible mini-project even for a busy hobbyist.

Sunday's epic games leave a deep craving for more amazing hobby with the crew - luckily War Head's Halloween in the Mortal Realms is just a couple of months away!

Civil War Igniting

New, secret forces are taking shap

The big one is coming - War Head Civil War will be played in two weeks' time! It's one of our dearest wargaming traditions and the invitational event for our inner circle has always made amazing hobby memories. Civil War is one of those events where the journey is as important as the destination; everyone is currently painting secret additions to their army - or perhaps creating a new force for the occasion entirely! What's certain is that it will be superbly exciting to gather and see what everyone has come up with and then play for the annual bragging rights.

Our format this year is Horus Heresy Patrols, fashioned after the example of the classic "40K in 40 minutes" rules - 500 point lists with the toughest characters and heavier assets restricted. Three rounds will be played, a single game as 1v1, another as 2v2 and finally four player Carnage free-for-alls. Each round will provide a new layer of gameplay flavour and social interaction. Can't wait.

Mitä, missä ja milloin?

Show of Force -armeijagalleria järjestetään Ropecon 2023 -tapahtumassa Helsingin Messukeskuksessa lauantaina 29. heinäkuuta. Tarkka sijainti Messukeskuksessa on hallissa 6B osana Näyttelyaluetta ja Ropeconin perinteistä miniatyyrimaalauskilpailua.

Kilpailutöitä otetaan vastaan lauantaina 10-13:00 välisenä aikana. Teokset jätetään näytille erilliselle galleria-alueelle conivieraiden ja tuomariston ihasteltavaksi. Osallistuminen ja töiden jättäminen kilpailulle rajatulle alueelle tapahtuu osallistujien omalla vastuulla. Yleisöäänestys järjestetään lauantaina Figutiskillä 13-18:00 ja skaban tulokset julkistetaan kilpailupaikalla lauantaina 18:30. Omat teokset kerätään tämän jälkeen talteen ja näyttelyalueen halli sulkeutuu 19:00.

- Ennakkoilmoittautumista ei tarvita, paikalle voi vain saapua oman kisatyön kanssa.

- Ennakkovalmisteluista voi halutessaan jakaa kuvia #showofforce23 -tagilla!

- Kaikkien esiteltävien miniatyyrien tulee olla valmiiksi koottuja, beissattuja ja maalattuja.

- Display Board saa olla enintään 24"x24" (61x61cm) -kokoinen, korkeutta ei ole rajattu. Tämä on myös järjestäjän virallinen suosituskoko, jota toivotaan käytettäväksi.

- Esiteltävän armeijan olisi hyvä koostua useammasta yksiköstä, mutta sen ei tarvitse olla sääntöjen mukaan pelikelpoinen kokonaisuus. 

- Figujen mittakaavaa ei ole rajattu, mutta kaikki kisatyöt arvostellaan samassa teemakategoriassa skaalasta riippumatta.

- Töiden arvostelussa kiinnitetään huomiota paitsi miniatyyrien tekniseen toteutukseen, myös erityisesti teoksen teemaan ja tunnelmaan - millaisen tarinan armeijakokonaisuus kertoo ja kuinka ympäröivä maisema tai miljöö tukee armeijan narratiivia.

- Kilpailun virallinen kuvagalleria julkaistaan viimeistään Ropeconin jälkeisellä viikolla Figuprojektien vertaisryhmässä, War Headin somekanavissa sekä Sotavasara.netissä.

Vertaisryhmä järjestää muun toimintansa ohessa myös miittejä, joihin kaikki figuilusta kiinnostuneet ovat tervetulleita mukaan kertomaan projekteistaan tai saamaan uusia ideoita. Ropeconin miitissä on luvassa ainakin rentoa rupattelua, figujenvaihtopiste (figuja rahaksi, rahaa figuiksi, figuja figuiksi) ja erilaisten maalausprojektien esittelyä. Aikataulu tarkentuu lähempänä tapahtumaa. Tervetuloa paikalle!

Järjestäjät

Figuprojektien vertaisryhmä on Facebookissa toimiva, kaikille avoin, jo lähes 1500 figuharrastajan ryhmä. Ryhmässä voit vapaasti jakaa keskeneräisten ja valmiiden figuprojektiesi kuvia ja kuulumisia muiden harrastajien kanssa. Keskustelussa keskitytään lähinnä figujen ja pienoismallimaastojen maalaukseen, mallaukseen sekä niiden lieveilmiöihin pelistä tai pelaamattomuudesta riippumatta.

War Head on suomalainen miniatyyripelikollektiivi, joka on elänyt ja hengittänyt figuharrastusta tiiviinä ryhmänä jo yli vuosikymmenen. Tiimimme on järjestänyt tai ollut mukana tukemassa toistasataa kansallista turnaustapahtumaa, miniatyyrimaalauskilpailua ja harrastuksen esittelytilaisuutta. Inspiraatiota ja meriittejä on haettu myös kansainvälisistä tapahtumista niin pelien kuin maalauksenkin saralla.

The Jurassic Dark

We created a few "horror-inspired" Age of Sigmar armies for our Halloween Battle this fall - these Lizardmen are a wily bunch of witches and grave-robbers that have chosen to take root in the Realm of Shadows and have tread a bit too far from the light of the their star-masters. This would have led to a cultural and physical decay in their mighty cohorts, with the loyalty to the Old Ones slowly changing to cult behavior and primitive paganism. One of the most interesting elements in AoS for me is how the different realms offer thematic conversion ideas and possibilities to interpret the usual faction visuals and culture in a different, imaginative way.

Small projects like these are awesome for testing out new mediums, methods and techniques - it's always healthy to challenge oneself and to try pushing both the vision and end product a bit further.
